ISCIENCES WORLDWIDE WATER WATCH LIST JUne 2024

This map presents a selection of regions likely to encounter significant water anomalies during the one year period beginning in March 2023 and running through February 2025 using 3 months of observed temperature and precipitation data and 9 months of forecast data.

The synopsis that follows provides highlights of regional water forecasts. Regional details are available in ISciences Global Water Monitor & Forecast Watch List June 15, 2024 (pdf).

United States:  Moderate to extreme surpluses are expected to persist in eastern Texas and northern Louisiana until August 2024.

Canada: Deficits of varying intensity are expected to continue in the Prairie Provinces until November 2024 or longer.

Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean:  Northwestern areas of Mexico can anticipate deficits of varying intensity to linger until November 2024.

South America: Exceptional deficits are expected to continue in western and southern Brazil until August 2024.

Europe:  Moderate to severe surpluses are expected to cover much of western to central Continental Europe until August 2024.

Africa: Intense surplus is expected to emerge across regions of the Sahel until November 2024.

Middle East: Exceptional deficits are expected to emerge in southeastern Iran until November 2024.

Central Asia and Russia: Northern regions of Kazakhstan is expected to observe an emergence of severe to extreme surplus which may linger until November 2024.

South Asia: Much of northern to central India is expected to experience expanding surplus until February 2024 or longer.

Southeast Asia and the Pacific: Pockets of surplus are expected to remain in various regions of Maritime Southeast Asia until August 2024.

East Asia: Pockets of exceptional deficits are expected to linger in northwestern China until February 2025 or longer.

Australia & New Zealand: Severe to extreme surpluses are expected to expand across northern and central Australia until November 2024.
