Our July 2022 Outlook indicates that temperatures will be exceptionally hotter than normal across vast extents of Brazil and China. Wetter than normal conditions are expected in Queensland, Australia, particularly in the northwest.

Regions forecast to have significant water deficits for the 12-month period February 2022 through January 2023 include: Estonia, France, North Africa, Iran, Mangystau (Kazakhstan), Chile, and Texas and the U.S. West. Areas of significant water surplus include: eastern Australia, Indonesia, China, India, and Tanzania. This Watch List is based on ISciences Water Security Indicator Model v2 (WSIMv2) 5 May 2022.

The forecast through January 2021 indicates water deficits in much of Mexico with intense anomalies in central Baja, southern Chihuahua, and from Nuevo León into Puebla. Areas of surplus include the Yucatán, Central America, Jamaica, and the Bahamas.
