ISCIENCES WORLDWIDE WATER WATCH LIST April 2025

This map presents a selection of regions likely to encounter significant water anomalies during the one year period beginning in January 2025 and running through December 2025 using 3 months of observed temperature and precipitation data and 9 months of forecast data.

The synopsis that follows provides highlights of regional water forecasts. Regional details are available in ISciences Global Water Monitor & Forecast Watch List April 15, 2025 (pdf).

United States: Exceptional deficits are expected to be in several areas of the Southwest until June 2025.

Canada: Portions of the West Coast, Prairie Provinces, and Northern Territories regions should anticipate wide deficits until September 2025.

Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean: Central to south-central regions of Mexico will observe severe to exceptional deficits until December 2025.

South America: Surpluses of severe to exceptional intensity are forecast in portions of the Amazon Rainforest until September 2025.

Europe: Widespread exceptional deficits are expected to linger in areas of northern and eastern Europe until September 2025.

Africa: Surpluses in the Sahel are expected to continue until December 2025 or longer.

Middle East: Exceptional deficits are expected to continue in portions of the Arabian Peninsula until June 2025.

Central Asia and Russia: Exceptional deficits are expected in significant portions of European and northern coastal Russia until September 2025.

South Asia: Surpluses of moderate intensity are expected to continue in much of central India until December 2025.

Southeast Asia and the Pacific: Severe to exceptional deficits are expected in areas of Maritime Southeast Asia until September 2025.

East Asia: Severe to exceptional deficits are anticipated in regions of northwestern China and the Yangtze River Basin until September 2025.

Australia & New Zealand: Severe to exceptional surpluses are expected to occur in Queensland until December 2025.
