ISCIENCES WORLDWIDE WATER WATCH LIST March 2025

This map presents a selection of regions likely to encounter significant water anomalies during the one year period beginning in December 2024 and running through November 2025 using 3 months of observed temperature and precipitation data and 9 months of forecast data.

The synopsis that follows provides highlights of regional water forecasts. Regional details are available in ISciences Global Water Monitor & Forecast Watch List March 14, 2025 (pdf).

United States: Widespread exceptional deficits are expected in numerous southwestern states until May 2025.

Canada: Pockets of exceptional deficits are anticipated in isolated pockets of the Prairie Provinces until August 2025.

Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean: Severe to exceptional surpluses are anticipated in Central America until May 2025.

South America: Exceptional deficits will remain in central and southern portions of Brazil until August 2025.  

Europe: Severe to exceptional deficits are expected to be widespread throughout eastern Europe until August 2025.

Africa: Surpluses are expected to remain along the Sahel until November 2025 or longer.

Middle East: Exceptional deficits will linger in several regions of the Levant until November 2025 or longer.

Central Asia and Russia: Regions east of Lake Baikal will endure exceptional deficits until August 2025.

South Asia: South-central and southern India will observe severe to extreme surpluses until May 2025.

Southeast Asia and the Pacific: Surpluses of varying intensity are expected to linger in several countries within Maritime Southeast Asia until May 2025.

East Asia: Widespread severe to exceptional deficits are expected to occur within the Yangtze River Basin until May 2025.

Australia & New Zealand: Queensland is expected to endure severe to extreme surpluses until November 2025 or longer.
