The forecast indicates that intense surpluses will lessen in size and severity in southeastern Australia, but will appear in north-central Australia. Intense deficits will emerge in southwestern and eastern coastal regions of the continent. 

The forecast indicates that Australia will experience widespread mild deficits, with small pockets of more intense anomalies scattered throughout the continent. Non-contiguous areas of the region are expected to observe intense deficits. 

The forecast indicates that much of Australia will experience mild to moderate water deficits, with some pockets of intense deficits and surpluses appearing throughout the continent. Similarly intense deficits are expected to emerge in Tasmania and New Zealand. Existing surpluses in the continent’s southeastern regions are expected to continue, as well as in the northern island of New Zealand. 

The 12-month forecast anticipates intense surpluses to continue in southeastern and northern regions of Australia.

The forecast through May 2023 indicates that surpluses in southeastern Australia will persist, though much of the anomalies in New South Wales will change to intense transitional conditions. Surpluses in northern New Zealand are expected to remain, as are intense deficits in southwestern New Zealand.
