Widespread intense water deficits are forecast for the Arabian Peninsula through September, gradually diminishing in extent and severity thereafter. From July through September exceptional deficits will persist across central Saudi Arabia, in southern Iraq, and in Lebanon, and severe to extreme deficits are forecast for Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Iraq west of the Euphrates, and North Khorasan, Iran. Surpluses in Fars and near Tehran, Iran will transition to conditions of both deficit and surplus, receding by early next year. Surpluses along the northern Iran/Iraq border will persist through December, and a pocket of exceptional surplus in central Oman will persist through March 2018.

Exceptional water deficits spanning the Arabian Peninsula are expected to continue through November affecting southern Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States, all of Yemen, and most of Oman. Conditions are expected to moderate in early 2018. Moderate to exceptional surpluses in northern Iraq extending into Iran should subside by December. Exceptional surpluses in south central Iran are expected to persist through the forecast period before moderating between December and February 2018. A pocket of exceptional surplus in central Oman persists throughout the forecast period into 2018.

Severe to exceptional water deficits are forecast throughout Saudi Arabia from May through July, increasing in extent from the prior three months, and in southern Iraq and west of the Euphrates. Deficits nearly as intense will emerge in United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Lebanon. Deficits of varying severity are forecast for Turkey, Lebanon, West Bank, Israel, Jordan, Yemen, Oman, and eastern Iran. Surpluses may persist in northeastern Iraq into northwestern Iran. The forecast for August through October shows a distribution pattern similar to May through July.

Severe to exceptional water deficits are forecast to emerge April through June in: Saudi Arabia, Iraq west of the Euphrates, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, eastern Oman into southern coastal Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, West Bank, Israel, and eastern Cypress. Deficits in Yemen are expected to downgrade but remain severe and widespread. Deficits of varying severity are expected to persist in some areas of Turkey, and moderate deficits are forecast for central Iran. Surpluses are forecast in southern Iran from the Persian Gulf east into Kerman Province.

The extent of exceptional water deficits in the region is expected to nearly disappear March through May, but moderate to severe deficits are forecast for the Arabian Peninsula and Turkey. Deficits are also forecast for Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel, southern Iraq, and coastal Georgia. Surpluses are forecast in Iran from the central Persian Gulf inland to the center of Kerman Province. From June through August the extent and severity of deficits will increase throughout much of the region, particularly on the Arabian Peninsula.
