The forecast through August indicates widespread water surpluses in Andhra Pradesh, southeastern Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka, and from eastern Bangladesh into Indian regions to the east. Anomalies will be exceptional in Karnataka and from Bangladesh into India.

The forecast through September indicates water surpluses in India’s southern half and West Bengal, Bangladesh, central Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Deficits will shrink in India’s Far Northeast. Exceptional deficits are forecast in Baluchistan Province, Pakistan reaching into Afghanistan.

Areas with a forecast of significant water surplus include: China, Vietnam, southwestern India, and European Russia. This Watch List is based on ISciences Water Security Indicator Model v2 (WSIMv2) run on 5 January 2021.

The forecast through January 2021 indicates intense water surpluses in much of western India and the Deccan Plateau, Bangladesh, eastern Nepal into western Bhutan, and in the upper Harirud and Helmand River Watersheds of Afghanistan. Deficits will emerge in northwestern India.
