Europe: Water deficits, especially Scandinavia, Spain & Ukraine, surpluses in western European Russia

For the next three months water deficits will continue to dominate much of Europe especially Spain, Scandinavia, the Baltics, and Ukraine. Although the severity will diminish the extent will increase. Exceptional surpluses are forecast for western European Russia. From January through March deficits are expected to diminish in both extent and severity across Europe. Surpluses will continue to emerge in European Russia during that period and will also emerge in the Baltics and southern Scandinavia.

Regions likely to encounter significant water deficits in the coming months include: the US Northeast, central Quebec (Canada), Amapá (Brazil), Chile, western Ukraine, southwest Yemen, Gujarat (India), Cambodia, Malay Peninsula, Korean Peninsula, and Shandong Peninsula (China). Water surpluses are forecast for: Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nicaragua, central Colombia, western European Russia, Volga Basin, eastern Ganges Basin, Nepal, Bangladesh, western Myanmar, Java, Yangtze River, Fujian (China), and Murray River Basin.. This watch list is based on ISciences' Water Security Indicator Model (WSIM) Global Water Monitor and Forecast issued 7 October 2016.

Europe: Water deficits forecast across Europe through November

For the next three months water deficits will continue to dominate much of Europe, and though the severity will diminish the extent will increase. Surpluses are forecast for European Russia. After November, water surpluses will emerge across Northern Europe, western European Russia from St. Petersburg to the White Sea, and in the Volga Basin.

Europe: Water deficits forecast for Eastern Europe, surpluses in Luxembourg

Water deficits are forecast to persist over the next several months in Finland, southern Norway and Sweden, the Baltics, eastern Germany, Eastern Europe, the Iberian Peninsula, and the Mediterranean. Water surpluses are forecast to persist, though diminished in extent and severity, in the United Kingdom, northern France and across the border into Germany. From November on, a transition to water surpluses across Northern Europe, the Baltics, European Russia, and later, Central Europe, is forecast.  Deficits remain in the forecast for countries along the Mediterranean Sea through April.

Europe: Severe to Exceptional Water Deficits Forecast Throughout Mediterranean Europe; Surpluses in Ireland, the UK and Denmark

Severe to exceptional water deficits are forecast to emerge throughout Mediterranean Europe with greatest extent and severity in eastern Spain, Corsica, Sardinia, northern Italy, southern Greece, and western Turkey. Deficits are forecast in Finland, the Baltics, Eastern Europe, and European Russia. Exceptional surpluses are forecast for Ireland, northern United Kingdom, and Zealand, Denmark.
