Southeast Asia and the Pacific: Persistent, widespread, and severe deficits forecast in Southeast Asia, Sumatra, eastern Borneo, southern Philippines, and the island of New Guinea

Moderate to exceptional water deficits are forecast for many parts of Southeast Asia and the Pacific through September 2016. Deficits are expected to be most persistent, widespread, and severe in Southeast Asia, Sumatra, eastern Borneo, the southern Philippines, and the island of New Guinea.

 

South Asia: Water deficits expected in Southern Afghanistan, Pakistan, and portions of India; surpluses forecast in southeastern India, Sri Lanka, northeastern Afghanistan, and Nepal

The forecast through September 2016 indicates water deficits in southern Afghanistan, Pakistan, and portions of India, with many areas experiencing both deficits and surpluses. Surpluses are forecast in southeastern India, Sri Lanka, northeastern Afghanistan, and Nepal.

 

Central Asia & Russia: Widespread surpluses forecast from the Ural Mountains to the Central Siberian Plateau, Moderate deficits expected in Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan

Exceptional water surpluses are forecast along rivers in Kazakhstan and across the border into central Russia for an area extending from the Ural Mountains to the Central Siberian Plateau. Moderate water deficits are expected in Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan and are forecast to intensify in the latter portion of the forecast period.

South America: Exceptional Water Deficits to Persist in Brazil, Severe to Exceptional Surpluses to Expand and Intensify in Argentina

Exceptional water deficits are forecast to persist across northern Brazil, Suriname, French Guiana, coastal Peru, western Bolivia, and northern and southern Chile. Severe to exceptional surpluses are forecast for southern Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina, and are expected to increase in extent and severity throughout the forecast period.
